Five years are in the books for kerryeggers.com

Hello! Thanks for visiting kerryeggers.com.

On May 3, my website celebrated five years of operation. We started the site in 2020 (read the first story here), shortly after I retired following 45 years in Portland newspaper sportswriting — seven at The Oregon Journal, 18 at The Oregonian, 20 at the Portland Tribune.

If you are a subscriber, thank you! If not, insert your email in the space provided below and sign up. You will be sent every story we post on the website.

Unlike most sites, we do not have a paywall. Thanks to the generosity of our sponsors, your subscription is covered as well as the assorted costs of running a website. We are committed to at least another year of providing material from the Fourth Estate we hope you will find informational and entertaining, with quality and substance you can’t get elsewhere.

As of May 3, 2025, we have posted 550 stories — most of them sports-related, but also Q&As with musicians such as Chris Botti, Billy Ocean, 2025 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Chubby Checker, George Thorogood, Don Brewer of Grand Funk Railroad, Lonnie Jordan of War, Don Felder (Eagles), Otis Williams of The Temptations and Mike Reno of Loverboy. But sports is our lifeblood, and you will get a wide variety of reporting on it here.

We continue to get a strong response from our readers. We have almost 81,000 page views this year, a 23 percent increase from this point a year ago. Over five years, we have had more than 661,000 page views. We are trending upward.

We welcome comments, criticisms and story suggestions. If you would like to comment publicly on a story, see the “post comment” tab at the bottom of each story. For a private note or a story suggestion, use the “Contact” tab atop this page. I will respond. I appreciate feedback from readers, letting me know what I am doing right and, occasionally, what I am doing wrong.

If you are looking for a particular story, the “Search” tab should be of help.

Also, under “Books” are covers of the 10 books I have written through the years, beginning with “Blazer Profiles,” published in 1991 after Portland’s 1990 run to the NBA Finals. Several of the books are available for purchase via the site’s “Store” tab.

An 11th book is in the works. A “Best of Kerry Eggers” collection of pieces from 50 years of sportswriting is in production. With luck we will have a Nov. 1, 2025 release. You will be able to purchase the book on kerryeggers.com.

I am in gratitude to our presenting sponsor, courtesy of Frosty Comer, Brian Cook and Cook Solutions Group. Also, to supporting sponsors Cutsforth’s Market in Canby, Steve Saxton’s Bravura Cellars Vineyard, Jeff Sanders Entertainment, Jim Fisher Volvo, Tim Euhus and Edward Jones, Chris Dussin and Old Spaghetti Factory, Pat Quigg, Sam Yockey and Incight, Ken Eagon and Rick Coutin. Please patronize their businesses. We couldn’t do this without them. Thank you for your support!

And I couldn’t do this without my web supervisor, who does an incredible job of taking care of all the technical and Internet stuff I know nothing about.
