Six years down … already?

Wow, does time fly.

We have covered a lot of ground in the six years since we started Project Enterprise, my landing spot after 45 years writing sports for The Oregon Journal, The Oregonian and the Portland Tribune.

Since May 2020, we have survived a pandemic, the break-up of the Pac-12, the metastasis of NIL and the transfer portal, the Trail Blazers’ four-year tank-a-thon and a dismantling of power positions with Oregon State athletics.

Six years and 668 stories later, kerryeggers.com is still alive and kicking, informing and entertaining.

At least that is the message I am getting from the people who count — our readers.

We are closing in on one million pageviews through our history. We should reach that total by the end of the year. Pageviews from the first of the year are up 40 percent from the previous year.

The most-read story over the six years was one on a controversial subject — figure skater Tonya Harding, with whom I had lunch and interviewed last December. The page-view total for that article through May 9 was 22,383.

The others in the top five: Otis Williams of The Temptations in September 2024; The ABCs of NIL in October 2022; Clyde Drexler, on why he didn’t return for a 25-year celebration of the 1990 Trail Blazers in March 2025; and Trent Bray as he began his short tenure as head football coach at Oregon State in January 2025.

I offer variety. Over the past year, I have written often about the Blazers, the Beavers and the Winterhawks. I have done in-depth nostalgia pieces with the likes of Rod Strickland, Andre Miller, Bucky Buckwalter, Les Gutches and Terrell Brandon. I have done profiles of personalities such as Harding, Erik Spoelstra, David Adelman, Travis Bazzana and Adley Rutschman. I have covered events such as Tom Dundon’s purchase of the Blazers, Damian Lillard’s return to the team, Meyers Leonard’s new world, Corvallis High’s football number retirement ceremony for Donny Reynolds, the AL Division Series in Seattle, the NCAA Men’s Basketball Regional in Portland and the NCAA baseball Regional and Super Regional in Corvallis.

There have been stories on the Portland State football reunion featuring Mouse Davis, the Portland Diamond Project’s bid to bring MLB to Portland, Scott Brosius’ hiring as Linfield athletic director, the death of former Oregon basketball great Stan Love and former radio/television personality Paul Linnman’s new life as an umpire. And to step outside the sports box for a minute, I have written about upcoming concerts featuring Jay Leno, ventriloquist extraordinaire Terry Fator and the Australian Bee Gees.

If you are looking for a particular article, the “Search” tab atop the home page will be of help. We have all stories posted since the very first one about Rasheed Wallace and Bonzi Wells on May 3, 2020, titled “Hey Guys! I Was Listening.” Ironically, the former Jail Blazer pair finally got to tell “their side” with a little revisionist history on a recent Netflix documentary. No reason to let facts get in the way of a story.
