My 11th and 12th books — “Scrolls of a Sports Scribe Volume i and Volume II” — are now available for sale at kerryeggers.com.
You can also pick up a book from me in person on Saturday during a signing event that will occur from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at the CH2M Hill Alumni Center across from Reser Stadium before the Oregon State-Washington State game.
Also on hand will be former Our Beaver Nation president Frosty Comer, subject of my 2024 biography “Frosty is No Snowman.”
Both books will be available for purchase at the Alumni Center.
“Scrolls of a Sports Scribe” is a collection of my work through a half-century of sportswriting for Portland newspapers, magazines, periodicals and kerryeggers.com.
Actually, it will be two books in one.
Volumes I and II feature 120 articles — 60 in each volume — published in the Oregon Journal, The Oregonian and Portland Tribune, plus in Northwest and Courtside magazines and on kerryeggers.com, from 1975-2025.
I picked stories on a cross-section of subjects that I thought would hold the most interest for readers. There is a regional emphasis, but many of the subjects are major names, not just in the U.S. but in the world. There are stories about significant events I covered, such as Super Bowls, the World Series and NBA Finals, and also unusual endeavors such as pit-bull fighting and a blind golf tournament.
Stories on a variety of sports are included. Football and basketball get the most attention, but there are pieces about major subjects in baseball, golf, tennis, boxing, soccer, wrestling, pro wrestling and track and field. In virtually every story, I did the interview and got my own quotes.
The books include pieces on such national and international figures as Muhammad Ali, Wilt Chamberlain, Mike Tyson, Tiger Woods, Michael Jordan, Karl Malone, Charles Barkley, Shaquille O’Neal, Kobe Bryant, Dennis Rodman, Jerry West, Tonya Harding, Carl Lewis, Florence Griffith-Joyner, Bob Costas and John McEnroe. There are stories on local icons such as Phil Knight, Chip Kelly, Clyde Drexler, Bill Walton, Danny Ainge, Sabrina Ionescu and Paul Allen.
Oregon State alums will have special interest in such subjects as Terry Baker, Pat Casey, Dick Fosbury, Jess Lewis, Craig Hanneman, Mikayla Pivec, Jade Carey, Steven Kwan, Adley Rutschman, Travis Bazzana, Mitch Canham, Mike Riley, Dale Story, Brent Barry, A.C. Green, Frank Peters, Alexis Serna, Doug Oxsen (and the Chancellor’s Trophy) and Danny Langsdorf (who donated a kidney to Mike Cavanaugh’s wife). There is also the oldest story in the collection, on Hall of Fame wrestling coach Dale Thomas that I wrote for the OSU Barometer in 1974.
To order the book, go here and fill out the order form. As soon as we receive the order, the delivery will go into motion.
